There is an interesting post by Gab Goldenberg on Search Engine Journal that looks at 101 tips for buying text link ads. I know many web owners have considered buying links as part of link building strategies but have steered away for fear of possible search penalties. It does raise a question as to whether they are worth the time and effort that goes into acquiring and managing these links.

The post calls them text link ads and they are - they are also simply paid links, a practice that Google frowns heavily upon. However, there is one statement that is worth thinking about:

One thing I tried to demonstrate in this article is that you can take virtually every organic link building technique and achieve the same thing with money.

It is a very true statement. I won't go into the rights and wrongs of paid links, you can make your own mind up about that issue. Creating an organic link is not difficult. For the site creating the link, it's a moment's work. The difficult part is in finding those who have the pages that you need links from. In the past, link farms have worked on the basis of link quantity over quality - these days quality is more important than quantity although they both have their places.

Let's look at one example of an organic link that could be bought. One of the best links you can obtain is through a quote. This is where a portion of text is reprinted with a link back to the originating site (as I have done above). The question now is how much are you willing to pay to have someone quote you? Twenty pounds, thirty, forty? Of course it depends on the site linking to you but even at "20 for a PR4 or PR5 site, are you getting value for money? The second question is how many of these links do you need - 30,40,50? If you were to buy 50 of these links the total cost is "1000. Could that money be better spent elsewhere?

I think it can. For "1000 you could probably buy 50-100 well written articles which could be submitted to article directories or used as guest posts. I am sure with that sort of strategy you could end up with far more than just 50 inbound links - and they are all legitimate links! What are your thoughts, are paid links value for money?

Thousands Of Sites Loaded With Malware

Cybercriminals have laced about 2,000 legitimate websites with a potent malware cocktail that surreptitiously attacks people who browse to them, a security researcher warned Friday.

Unlike past outbreaks of the mass web attack known as Gumblar, this round actually plants exploit code on the website servers themselves. Curiously, the directory and file name of the malicious payload is in most cases unique and identical to a legitimate file that existed on the website.

The trick makes it extremely difficult for webmasters and anti-malware programs to detect the threats.

"This is an ugly can of worms," said Mary Landesman, the ScanSafe security researcher who warned of the mass attack. "Any time you see a new technique evolve like this the concern is we'll be seeing much more of this in the future, and certainly it complicates the remediation of the compromised website."

Previously, Gumblar planted links in thousands of compromised websites that silently redirected users to a handful of servers that hosted the exploits. That method allowed white hats to foil the attack by shutting down one or two domains. With the malware embedded directly in the compromised websites, the take-down process is significantly more time consuming.

Also making matters hard for Landesman to get the sites cleaned up: Most of the websites belong to small businesses that cater to non-English speakers. Few of them have dedicated security employees, and even when representatives can be located, the person contacting them must speak multiple languages.

While the websites are relatively small, Gumblar architects have planted links in online discussion forums across the web that often cause RSS readers to automatically send users to the booby-trapped pages. Landesman suspects black-hat search engine optimization may also be causing the infected sites to be featured prominently in results returned by Google and others.

People who are unfortunate enough to visit the sites won't see anything unusual. But behind the scenes, a PHP script checks their version of Adobe Reader and Adobe Flash, and if their out of date, hijacks their PCs using known vulnerabilities. If both of those programs are up to date, the script tests to see if the system is vulnerable to several bugs Microsoft has patched in the last few months.

Hijacked machines will be installed with a backdoor that gives the hijackers complete control. They are also equipped with malware that manipulates search results returned by Google.

It's unclear exactly how the sites are getting compromised. Landesman suspects FTP passwords for the sites have been lifted from administrators' computers using key-logging malware.

About once every couple of years an excellent course is brought to the marketplace the general public. One which answers a ton of the queries that I personally had when I began marketing online many years back.

After I first began my on-line promoting career, I'd heard that affiliate advertising was the "method to make money online quick". I'm certain that you have most likely heard that statement too!. These days, I'm always reading some "crap" in forums from individuals spouting off, "All you've got to do is go to Clickbank.com and look for products with "good" sales letters." And by that they mean, products that appear attractive and would be ones that you could buy yourself!!

Then, they say you may head over to Google Adwords and start advertising the chosen Clickbank product.

Then you have to work out which keywords are making you sales and which ones are notaren't.

Then get rid of the ones that are not.

After that, you simply just let your campaigns run on "auto-pilot" and you will be rich...

Ha, Ha, Ha...

Perhaps you have heard that garbage as well. And perhaps you've even tried it. I know I did. And, I am sure I do not have to tell you that such strategies clearly do not work.

Anyway, let's be honest here. Individuals ARE making a ton of money as affiliates solely promoting Clickbank.com products. I know this for a fact. So, how they do it is the question...

Chances are, they're either using the techniques taught in a new course called "The Google Sniper" system, or some type of variation of it. I know this system works. I actually have many of the "auto-pilot" systems set up.

Basically, I set up a little web site as an affiliate marketer, promoting Clickbank.com products. Anyway, back to the course I'm referring to. It's known as Google Sniper.

The course is VERY good and not expensive. Any of what is taught is what I do. And some of which were totally new to me. Oh, and I nearly forgot to say that the methods taught don't even use Google Adwords! Thus, if you dislike or aren't awfully brilliant at using Google Adwords, this is good for you.

Ok, sorry for the long, drawn out spiel. I sometimes ramble a bit when I get excited regarding things I love. blah blah blah...

This course is GOOD for you if any of these sounds like:

Your flower garden must have an adequate supply of water, sunlight, and fertile soil. Any lack of these basic necessities will greatly affect the health of plants. Water the flower garden more frequently during dry spells.

When planting bulbs, make sure they go at the correct depth. When planting out shrubs and perennials, make sure that you don't heap soil or mulch up around the stem. If you do, water will drain off instead of sinking in, and the stem could develop rot through overheating.

2. Mix and match perennials with annuals.

Perennial flower bulbs need not to be replanted since they grow and bloom for several years while annuals grow and bloom for only one season. Mixing a few perennials with annuals ensures that you will always have blooms coming on.

3. Deadhead to encourage more blossoms.

Deadheading is simply snipping off the flower head after it wilts. This will make the plant produce more flowers. Just make sure that you don't discard the deadhead on the garden or mildew and other plant disease will attack your plants.

An occasional application of liquid fertilizer when plants are flowering will keep them blooming for longer.

Always prune any dead or damaged branches. Fuchsias are particularly prone to snapping when you brush against them. The broken branch can be potted up to give you a new plant, so it won't be wasted.
