Then see the float process. If the water stops from running when the ball is lifted then bend the float arm down to match the right balance. If the ball has water inside it, then you need to replace the ball. You can do so by unscrewing it from the arm and setting a new one in that place.
Still if the running of the toilet persists, then check the valve seat and stopper. These may be corroded stopping the stopper from closing. Remove the stopper and verify for any objects. You have to replace the stopper and the valve seat if there is any damage.
It is advisable to carry the old parts with you when you are going to the hardware stores to get a new one to make sure that you get a perfect match.
